I have just finished reading Simon’s excellent book about the Rosedale mines. The arch itself is very interesting – I presume the original drift was closed off (behind the arch) on closure of the mine. It is unusual for the dismantlers to have left the stone in situ, would have thought it would have been re-used somewehere else in the village.
