This reservoir at the edge of Sadberge lies disused since 1985, its vast curved walls have become a magnet to BMX stunt riders.

Some large cast iron pipework can be found in the bottom of the reservoir.

A date stone from 1886 still exist with the name “S & M W B” which I believe stands for “Stockton and Middlesbrough Water Board” looking at the vandalised wreckage on the ground I think the building was at one time castellated.

The jubilee stone in the village was found during the construction of the reservoir.

  1. A piece of heritage. It would be far better to see it turned into a wildlife habitat that includes the tower complete with its historic castellation’s. The reality will be a residential development. It is a point of speculation that the housing projection has rose from 35 to what is now 45units. There is little to no consideration to the new estates potential home owners on their space and their access to and from for their vehicle’s or quality of life being so compacted. Nor, the surrounding dwellings as borders are encroached and obscured. This is in a village that has no school. No regular bus service. Does it need a new estate that does not have the necessary support structure? This would include doctors and police. Unlikely. Whilst it is a brown field site there is not an necessity in the forward housing plan to cram dwellings in to a locality to facilitate a profit margin.

    • Is there still a “Caretakers cottage” on this site. I have drawings for a 1880’s development of such by Stockton & Middlesbrough water board.
