The tunnel is very easy to locate at the top of path which bridges the A174.
A small has been broken through the bricks, but the drift is collapsed anyway.
There are a number of surface buildings and structures, the foundations closest to the drift are those of an electric hauler.
The concrete pillar held rope guides for the haulageway.
The large concrete stuctures are the foundations of the winding drums from the top of the incline.
The remains of stables with their drainage grooves can also be identifed.
Its been 2 years since i went up to the New Bank Drift entrance and it was still fully bricked up, now that hole is there have you had a look in?
Plus, somewhere i have a couple of photos of those exterior buildings when the mine was in use so i’ll have a look for them.
Hi Dave
I am the son of an Eston miner and very interested in building a model of the New bank incline system.Could you let me see any photos you have of the buildings or provide any info as to how the haulier wires worked and how the tramways operated.
Best Regards

The fourth photo was taken through the hole.
It mainly looked back filled or collapsed, with the hole in the wall and collapsed section visible to the right.
I was there on a whim without a torch so couldnt really have a closer look.
The picture of the drift is the shaft of the old fan house, the foundations of which are at the entrance. The Picture with the herring bone type floor (bottom right photo) is where the ponies were kept when they came out. The other concrete structures are where the Drum equipment was that allowed the tubs to run down the incline to the tip yard via California.
You forgot to mention that we got shot at on the walk back down.
