So little remains of the original streets of Grangetown due to demolition and the A66, its taken me over 10 years to drive through and notice this ingot mould on Bolckow Road.
Welcome back. As to ingot moulds, I would like a pint for every rake I loaded up as a BOS plant crane driver, using a hydraulic grab claw mast crane. Mould bay work was usually a quiet prize for your ‘double’ shift as there was no real pressure involved there and in was next to the canteen. The moulds (like the small ’29’ one pictured) were normally cast at Distington Engineering in Workington, and were, in their working lives, re-fettled and machined at Teesside Bridge, North Ormesby, and Tees Components at North Skelton, providing a good base load for both places.

I lifted that mould into position 20 year ago, I’m sure there were more houses then
