I’ve so far drawn a complete blank on when this dairy on Clifton Street opened and closed
It still has a substantial boiler chimney which is unusual for town center building.

I guess the dairy building may have been built as part of the original Co-op headquarters which stood on the corner of Clifton st.
Below is from Norman Moorsom’s 1976 book ‘Middlesbrough as it was’.
‘Victoria Buildings, headquarters of the Middlesbrough Cooperative Society. Built on the corner of Clifton St. at a coast of £16,000, the premises were opened in 1899. There were four shops on the ground floor, with the other departments, offices and warehouses on the first. The second floor was taken up by the Victoria Hall, kitchens and other rooms. The building was unique in the town, with its introduction of an electrically operated pneumatic cash carrier. In July 1942 the building was destroyed during an air raid and the Co-op has since re-developed the site. ‘

I lived on Clifton Street for 20 years with my parents so its nice to learn some info about both of these buildings. The old dairy now belongs to Python Properties and is used as a storage building.
According to the 1966 Co-operative Directory, the Middlesborough Co-op dairy was at 414 Marton Road, Middlesborough which I note is some distance from Clifton Street mentioned above. There is no mention of Clifton Street for any of the productive premises operated by Middlesborough Co-op which also included a small meats factory in Saltwells Road. I think the dairy stopped bottling in the early 1970s at which time it was probably absorbed into Associated Co-operative Creameries (ACC) who’s nearby processing at bottling facility was at Stockton. ACC was a federal dairy supplying a number of societies with bottled milk in the North Eat region.
