Middlesbrough Fire Station dates from 1939 and carries the Middlesbrough coat of arms.
It is due to be replaced soon, the facade was considered for listing by English Heritage on two occasions but it was ‘not considered to be of sufficient quality’.
Fortunately the tower will be kept.
Is a shame, I love this period of architecture.
No doubt to be replaced with some trendy structure that won’t stand the test of time!
If they applied for English Heritage status twice they must have thought that the building was special. Then why the hell knock it down! Typical council.
If it had been in London then no doubt it would have been given a blue plaque or it’s equivalent!
