It’s a long time since i’ve visited Hartlepool now that I no longer work near there.
It was nice to come back for a Stench Pipe though !
I suspect there are a lot more out there in Hartlepool of a similar age.
Have noticed loads of Stench Pipes in Hartlepool, lots hidden in back streets. The most curious one is on an estate built in the 1950s. Would love to know the how’s and why’s of it.
I was born in Hartlepool but have lived in East Cleveland for over 20 years now. I recently visited Hartlepool and discovered the stench pipe again at the bottom of Colwyn Road near to the bottom of the Burn Valley Gardens just off the start of York Road and very near the end of Penryn Street. It is hidden behind a tree but it’s there.
so do these stench pipes serve on a ‘live sewer’
