Although there was an ironstone mine immediately adjacent at Cragg Hall, this is modern and is presumably also from the shaft sinking of Boulby Potash mine in the 1970s like the nearby grab.
The link appears to be Peter Roberts, ex-manager of Boulby who lived in Brotton (sadly he appears to have passed away just a couple of years ago)
For comparison, here’s the 1800’s ironstone kibble at Pinchinthorpe.

To be found on the road junction between Castleton and Commondale, can’t really be considered graffiti on such an eye-sore of a bus stop.

Return of the Redcar Penguins
Despite being wrapped in black plastic yesterday, for the 1st of May the penguins have been enveiled.
They have moved numerous times since they appeared in 1994 with the placement of the bandstand and more recently with the placement of Sinterlation.
In the background you can see that the picture postcard are back, but they now stretch the pull length of the seafront (theres a puzzle to solve if you look closely for hidden letters)
Sinterlation by Ian Randall, Redcar
Sinterlation was installed at the end of April 2013 as part of the redevelopment of Redcar seafront.
The base features some boats to represent the towns fishing history and some steel chains for the local iron and steelmaking heritage. ‘Sinter’ is a mixture of iron ore, limestone and coke used to feed a blast furnace.
In the background are the re-installed penguins, still in black plastic at the moment.
